Wow, I'm getting really close to officially being a mom!  It's a little weird in some ways, but way exciting at the same time!  Tomorrow, I will hit the milestone where she'll no longer be considered premie if she's born.  I have been so blessed to have a fairly easy pregnancy.  Everything has gone pretty much "textbook", if there really is a "textbook" pregnancy!  lol  I am ready to see my little girl face to face!  I've seen the ultrasound pics, even the 3D ones which are really cool!!!  But I want to hold her now and look at her and snuggle!  (She better be a snuggler!!!)  I'm a little nervous about all the changes this is going to mean in my life, but I'm excited all the same!

Our little baby is a girl!!!  We're pretty excited!  We had an ultrasound on Monday and were able to very clearly tell she was, in face, a little girl!  Today is 20 weeks, so we are now to the "halfway" point (if she decides to appear on week 40), which is really exciting!  I've been feeling all sorts of little movements the last couple weeks, which is lots of fun!  So far, everything has been going very well and she is developing just fine!  That's probably the most exciting part!  We're going to go ahead and do the 4D ultrasound later on so we can see what our little girl looks like!  Yeah!  Until then, the little black and white pictures all over our fridge will do!

Only three months into it, and I'm already wearing my first maternity item!  lol  I can fit most of my pants still (somewhat) but I can no longer even do the rubber band trick with my jeans.  A friend of mine is letting me borrow some of her maternity clothes, so today I put on the jeans!  lol  It's a little weird having this 3 inch stretchy material at the top, but it feels much better than the tight jeans I was wearing!

War of the Spiders

For quite a while, the spiders of the apartment have laid low.  Once, while Ed was back on leave, a wolf spider found its way onto a piece of art I was moving.  Luckily, Ed was there to save the day.  I thought maybe the spiders had decided to move on to another place, to torment a different person.  I have learned the truth, however, that they have actually been plotting a giant war against me, for a time when neither Ed, nor a roommate, is here to protect me.  Now that they have me all alone, they have begun to attack.

The first battle, Operation Spider Drop #1, was just last week in the basement.  I am currently packing up the apartment, and all of our empty boxes are downstairs.  While I am down there, minding my own business, a giant brown recluse shows itself from behind the door.  It was huge!  Big and poisonous; not a fair combination.  Knowing that they can of course jump onto my leg and eat me if I try to step on it, I look around for other solutions.  After realizing I have no spider spray (they must have hidden it during their dormant period), I grabs a small box containing an egg-beater.  It was unopened, and the contents were secure.  Keeping myself a good 3 feet away from the challenger, I placed the box squarely over him and dropped it.  Success!  I had won the first battle!

The second battle was a few days later, again, in the basement.  This time, he tried to use dead spiders as bait.  I had just moved a giant box that I wanted to take upstairs, and I notice that there was a small brown recluse on the side of it.  Upon further (far away) inspection, I realized that it was dead.  Just to make sure that it wouldn't still try to jump up and eat me, I gave the box a quick kick.  At that point, and even bigger (and definitely moving) brown recluse ran out from under the box.  At this point, I did my jump, squeal, and run dance.  I knew I had to engage in this battle because it was surrounded by many other boxes it could easily take cover under, or in, and I couldn't have it taking my surprise again so thus began Operation Spider Drop 2.  I found a second box containing egg beaters that was unopened and secure.  (We got 4 egg beaters for our wedding!  lol)  I grabbed this second box, because the first box still had spider guts on it and dead spiders can still eat you.  Before I could aim for the spider, I had to move the big box with the small dead spider on it to make room for my egg beater box.  Carefully, and bravely I might add (: , I kicked the big box out of the way.  Keeping my distance, I again aimed my box and let it fly onto the big, giant brown recluse.  Just to be sure it was killed, I used my foot to put weight on the box (a very dangerous thing I might add) and drug the box about 3 inches so that the spider was thoroughly squished.  Another triumphant battle for me!

I guess the spiders realized that I was a bit braver then they thought, which is why they devised battle three and four.  Today, I was simply trying to clean up my bedroom when I noticed a tiny spider on the wall.  It was pretty low, only about 2 inches from the ground.  And it was some tiny kind.  Small, and not poisonous.  An easy battle to win.  I grabbed the closest thing to me, which was a 3 inch, 3 ring binder, and proceeded to smash the spider.  Battle won!  But, as I'm setting down the binder, I happen to notice a spider lunging at me from INSIDE the binder I was holding!!!  What a dirty trick!  I instantly threw down the binder and did my jump, squeal, and run dance.  This time, I couldn't drop a box on it.  First off, the binder needed to be opened so that the spider could be exposed.  Battle four had begun.  I put some shoes on (because bare feet are easy to jump on and eat) and grabbed my foot-long lighter.  This lighter doesn't actually work, so don't worry about the apartment catching fire. Using the lighter, I very quickly flung open the binder and jerked back so that it couldn't jump on my arm.  There in front of me, was a GIANT wolf spider.  It was bigger than the two brown recluses, although it's not poisonous.  Still, size plays a big role.  While I was standing there trying to figure out what to do, it began to move.  Slowly at first, and then it very quickly sprinted to the underside of the binder.  I quickly got rid of the lighter, because one foot was obviously not going to be enough protection, and I grabbed a pool stick.  Yes, a pool stick.  Using that pool stick, I rummaged through that entire area.  All there was in that corner was two binders, a folder, a small bag, and two little books.  Not many things to hide in, so I figured I would get it and smash it with the handle of the pool stick.  Unfortunately, I never found him.  Somewhere, in my BEDROOM, is a giant spider  ready to eat me.  :(

This war is obviously not over.  I fear that I will find many more spiders (including Mr. Wolf Spider in my room) before Ed comes home.  Please be thinking of me and my safety as I face each battle.
